Implode This

I know that no one comes here to learn about iPhone games, but this one is important to me :D . I’ve been working on this game for the past couple months, and I just submitted it to Apple.  It’s “Waiting For Review” right now.  Hopefully, next week it will be released.

If you think you’d like it, you can follow my game development company on twitter @spliketgames.  If you follow @spliketgames before the game is released, you’re automatically entered to win a promo code for the game.

For more info and screenshots for the game, you can also go to www.spliketgames.com.

Other Blog Post: Brent Hammett

I did a guest blog over at Brent Hammett’s blog.  In general, the blog is a Q&A on recording with limited budget and gear.  Check it out!

Brent is a friend that I’ve known since I was in 8th grade.  We played in bands together through high school and discovered the power of music together.  Today, Brent is on the road working backline for MercyMe.  He also did the graphic design for my main site: leebridges.com, cuz he’s awesome at making things look awesome.

Seeing Is Believing, Unfortunately

I’ll admit something embarrassing…very embarrassing.  On more than one occasion I’ve tricked myself.  I’ve sat down to tweak a vocal, maybe changing an eq setting for 3 or 4 minutes.  The whole time, I was thinking to myself “yeah, that sounds better.  nice job lee”.  That’s just about the time I would get a sinking feeling in my stomach.  Why?  The EQ was bypassed…I wasn’t changing anything!!!  The McGurk Effect might be to blame.

Using Delay as Reverb

ReverbReverb is a great way to create depth in a mix.  It can also add texture and change the attitude of the song.  What is “reverb” though?  Wikipedia says

Reverb is created when a sound is produced in an enclosed space causing a large number of echoes to build up and then slowly decay as the sound is absorbed by the walls and air.

So, at it’s root, reverb is basically a bunch or echoes (delays – in music mixing speak).  I’m sure a lot of you know that already, but do you use that knowledge? (more…)

2-Buss Processing – Now? or Later?

What’s a movie without an ending?  What’s a house without some paint?  What’s a cake without the icing?  Unfinished.  That’s what a mix is like without 2-buss processing.  There are a couple schools of thought on how to add that final touch to a mix, though.  The old-school way is to barely add any 2-buss processing during the mix.  You might add a small amount of compression to the 2-buss, but never any limiting.  The new-school way is to get the mix to sound as close to the final product as possible…using whatever tools you have: compression, eq, and limiting.  Now, if you were making a cake, would you send it to someone else to put the icing on?  Me neither.  I’d make it the best I could before I let anyone see it or taste it.
